windows or linux?

With a computer from Packet Networks, you control what operating systems it is shipped with. If you are not planning to play the latest games, don’t specifically need Microsoft Office (or are willing to tinker to get it working), are willing to learn something new and would like to save $200 on your new computer, ask to have Linux installed.

Most notebook computers are shipped from the factory with Windows installed. Packet Networks have access to a small range of laptops without Windows, giving you the option of having a Linux operating system installed without having to pay for a Windows licence. We can also install Windows and Linux in parallel letting you choose Windows or Linux on startup – known as “dual booting”.

Linux is a free operating system that can do almost everything that Windows can do. Nearly every available Windows application has a free, open source, equivalent.

Packet Networks are supporters of Open Source software. However, because we understand that it is not always a practical solution, we do offer Microsoft operating systems and software preinstalled and fully updated on your system.
